August, September and October had been planned out with activities, school, work, and church meetings. I think we chose carefully what to participate in. We didn't figure on the travel and practice times involved or the food required.
Football is a first time experience(now a second) and it takes a lot of time and food. Especially with two players on different teams and game schedules. Cross Country has been part of our life in the fall for a few years so we got this one figured out and enjoy rooting for our runners as they sprint to the finish. Traveling to the events isn't difficult as we live remote and long distances are our norm. Yet it takes time(and gas $). Sorry laundry, you will be there when we get home.
Food, who knew how much growing boys playing football would eat? (This year we had one boy and two girls and I almost forgot the two little boys and basketball) Meal time is almost comical as they load up their plates and the rest of us are like, uh do we get to eat? I am not keeping the fridge stocked enough. Left overs are scarce! We started buying things that have always been on our luxury list like granola bars, protein bars, cheese and carrot sticks, lunch meats, extra fruits, Powerade, water bottles and more... The garden is harvested and home baked goodies happen and.... don't last. As much as I have really enjoyed cheering them on and taking lots of pictures the fall sports are over and I can see a breather on the horizon, whew. AND hopefully some empty squares on the calendar!
Time is important. How we use it says a lot about us and our priorities. I am glad that our teens have had opportunities to try new things. I am thrilled at the skills they have learned, the dedication and respect they have shown to their teams and coaches. This has been a more than our normal busy start of the school year. (The last sentence makes me laugh. Guess what it's the new norm, ha!)
